- A BIG thank you to all our angels for being there to help us out.
- Danced 4 Squares tonight. Interestingly, we have 31 dancers registered for
the Basic Level, but last week and this week, only about 17 or 18 of those dancers attended???
- This was the first time that I have used Grand Slide to help us work up to the Grand Square;
dancers seemed to able to dance it quicker and more successfully because they don't need to figure out where to turn.
Also everyone is walking or sliding at the same time so the caller can prompt all dancers with the same helpful words.
Moves this week - Oct 10
Star Thru Start: Boy & Girl facing;
Reach forward and make an arch ("star") with the facing dancer; boy uses right hand; girl used left hand ; (ie, the hand you normally use for contact with your partner).
Boy walks around outside of the girl to face 1/4 turn to the right; Girl walk under the arch to face 1/4 turn to the left. Both end as a couple. ie, the person you Star Thru
with becomes your partner. Avoid over turning; do not face each other.
Grand Slide Start: Static Square (other variations)
Timing: takes 32 beats of music
Very similar to a Grand Square
except that dancers don't change the direction they are facing and sliding sideways replaces some of the walking.
Two couple are directed to face their partner (eg, Sides Face) before the call.
The simple rules:
- Nobody turns. Everybody stays facing the direction you are at the start
- You are traversing the 4 sides of the quadrant shared by you and your corner
- You are either walking (forward or backward) or sliding sideways
- When far apart, you walk/slide together
- When close together, you walk/slide apart
- Each walk/slide takes 4 steps (beats)
- When you are back to where you start, you reverse your directions for another 16 beats until you are back together again.
The caller may prompt
"Walk, 2, 3, 4; Slide 2, 3, 4; etc
